Message from the President

Spring in Michigan is …Tiger baseball, tulips in Holland, yardwork, spring-cleaning, and time for the annual MAPCR Spring Seminar.

Your MAPCR Convention/Seminar Committee has reviewed your evaluations and suggestions, and promises a little bit of something for everyone on Saturday, April 26th, at the Sheraton in Lansing.  This venue, in the middle of the mitten, is centrally located for your convenience.

Judge William E. Collette, Chief Judge of the 30th Judicial Circuit Court, will address the relationship between court reporters and the Court Reporters and Recorders Board of Review.  Bring your questions.  Judge Collette will also discuss the role of official reporters in the judicial system and share some stories on cases he’s presided over.

There’s no better time to become more organized than spring!  Representatives from Inner Space will supply you with techniques that will assist you in working more efficiently in your office and improve the functionality of your home.

Taking tests such as the RPR, RMR, and CRR in May?  Do you want to improve your realtime skills, perfect your captioning skills, or just plain write better and spend less time editing?  Tips and tricks for combating test-taking fears and writing with less anxiety will be presented by MAPCR’s own Patty Archambault, Lynne Marie Zakrzewski, and Kelli Werner.

If you’re feeling STRESSED from this past winter, from marathon writing sessions, or life’s trials and tribulations, you won’t want to miss Dr. Simone Ranes’s seminar.  She will provide suggestions for proper diet, exercise, and posture to increase your stamina, energy, and reduce fatigue.

Your lawn mower should get a tune-up every spring.  Why not your computer?  Jim Werner, a 15-year IT veteran, will share his expertise on a variety of topics, including tips on selecting a new computer with your tax refund check, maintaining your current system, recommending programs to safeguard your data.  Jim will try to answer any other questions you might have.

Karen Elly, a certified forensic handwriting expert from Analysis in Motion, will present an informative session on techniques she utilizes in analyzing handwriting.  What does your handwriting say about you?  Karen will do a personal analysis for you for a small fee.

Rekindle friendships and meet fellow students, reporters, captioners, and CART writers.  Acquire valuable CEUs.  Most of all, please support your association and join us for a memorable gathering!
