SAGINAW COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT

OFFICIAL COURT REPORTER

Position: Circuit Court Reporter

 

Department: Circuit Court

 

Salary: $38,287-$47,771.  Additional compensation for transcripts per state statute, which generally ranges from $12,000 to $20,000 per year

 

Benefits: This is a union position, but benefits similar to those found here will be available. A copy of union benefits will be supplied at time of interview.

 

Position Description: Produces by computerized, real-time stenographic methods a verbatim record of all proceedings held in Circuit Court to be utilized by any and all persons; Judges, law clerks, litigants, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court as well as the public, requiring a verbatim transcript of proceedings.

The successful candidate may either work with one judge or may be assigned to the swing reporter position.

 

Requirements: CSR with a minimum of one year experience working at a freelance reporting agency or other court position.

Certified Realtime Reporter is preferred, but all candidates will be considered.  However, reporter must be willing to write realtime to the judges for all proceedings.

Although not a requirement, Eclipse users are preferred.

NCRA and MAPCR members given priority consideration.

Knowledge of Court reporting, stenographic machine, typing, computer word processing, legal terminology, medical terminology, English grammar, court procedures, type 60 wpm, use stenographic machine 225 wpm.

Ability to communicate with people effectively and occasionally deal with irate people. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and understand people from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.

Reporter must provide their own steno machine, laptop for courtroom, and printer.
